3 teams that should have offers ready for a Derek Carr trade, No. 2: Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders got off to a rough 1-4 start to the season before entering their Week 14 bye with a 7-5-1 record. Their roster is performing at the top of their game under head coach Ron Rivera, but much like in the previous two years, their quarterback play has been holding them back.

They made the trade for Wentz to be their starting quarterback following his one-year stint with the Colts. He led the team to a 2-4 record before hitting injured reserve with a broken right ring finger.

Taylor Heinicke filled in, and while he didn’t light the stat sheets on fire, he played well enough to help the team pick up victories and push them into playoff contention. However, he has not played great in Washington’s two games after the bye against the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers. In fact, Heinicke was benched during the 49ers contest, and won’t be making the start in Week 17 against the Cleveland Browns. Instead, Wentz is back in the starting lineup.

The Commanders have some big playmakers on offense, which would be beneficial for any quarterback who steps in. If Washington were to trade for Carr, he’ll have Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Curtis Samuel to throw passes to.
