3 moves Braves should make next after Sean Murphy contract extension

3. The Braves should re-sign Adam Duvall for a part-time role
Free agent Adam Duvall hasn’t gotten much attention this offseason. The 34-year-old outfielder missed about half of last season while not producing nearly as much in 2021. Many may have already forgotten he led the league with 113 RBI. Add in the 38 home runs and the Braves have someone out there who can replicate Ozuna’s numbers at a much cheaper price and with a better reputation.
What has Duvall stand out more than Ozuna is his defense. He won a Gold Glove in 2021. Our expectations for his defense shouldn’t be quite so lofty in 2023. As a fourth or maybe even fifth outfielder on their roster, there’s a lot to like about him.
Duvall may have reached the point this offseason where settling for a one-year deal on the cheap is what’s best for him. He hit for his usual low average and OBP last season and forgot to bring the power and RBI numbers. He is not a starter at this point. He’s a right-handed bat off the bench. In case of emergency, the Braves could rely on him for a little more.
Reuniting with Duvall won’t make Atlanta the National League Champions. He can offer them security. Able to play all three outfield positions, he’d offer them more than many of the other free agents left in the pool.
