NFL quarterbacks that could be traded in 2023 offseason: Derek Carr

Did Jarrett Stidham make Raiders fans forget about Derek Carr on Sunday? The way he was playing at one point, against the league’s best defense at that, was quite impressive. Now, that’s not to say that Stidham is the future in Las Vegas — because he’s not.

But, the change of face worked well for the Raiders offense, who put up a strong performance on San Francisco.

Stidham’s performance aside, the writing seems to be on the wall for Carr in Las Vegas. A team doesn’t decide to bench their starting quarterback for the remaining two games only to bring him back next season. Heck, the Raiders opted to deactivate Carr for the remaining two games, not simply just bench him.

Carr’s time appears up in Las Vegas, but in an offseason that is sure to see plenty of quarterback movement, he’ll have his suitors. The 9-year veteran will be 32 years old in March and has three Pro Bowls under his belt. Having thrown for 4,000 yards in four-straight seasons — and nearly five, if he wasn’t benched in 2022 — Carr has plenty left to offer his next team.

The only question is, who trades for him? Better question: do the Raiders end up releasing him due to the fact they could only end up with $5.6 million in dead cap? That could be a more likely scenario, in the end.
