After the Damar Hamlin injury that postponed the Bills vs Bengals game, here’s what to know about when the game will be played.
A very scary cardiac arrest injury in-game for Damar Hamlin caused Monday night’s game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals to be postponed.
On Damar Hamlin and his injury, here are the details you should know about.
Here is everything to know so far about the game being resumed.
Will the Bills-Bengals game be rescheduled?
The NFL has decided that the game will not be played this week, per a league statement.
As of now, momentum is reportedly building toward the game not being played and AFC playoff standings being determined by win percentage (thanks to an unequal amount of games played). This would mean that the Chiefs would get the No. 1 seed by default with a win against the Raiders in Week 18 if this is the direction the league opts to go in.
Who will decide when Bills-Bengals game will resume?
According to Vic Carucci, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will decide when and if, exactly, the game will be played.
Presumably, however, Goodell will consult with no shortage of folks inside the league office and with the respective teams to make the decision.
When will Bills and Bengals make up Week 17 game?
UPDATE: Thursday, 2:33 pm E.T.: The NFL is not going to resume Bills vs Bengals according to Rob Maaddi.
According to Carucci’s reporting on Tuesday morning, the game needs to be played within two days for it to happen this week. That would mean Wednesday at the latest.
An alternative that is being considered, however, is the league adding a “19th week” to the season to make up the game, according to Carucci. His reporting is consistent with Rule 17, Article 9 of the 2022 rulebook.
According to the NFL’s 2022 rulebook, Rule 17 Article 8 says that if a game is interrupted and can not be finished the same day, the game should be played on a subsequent date to be determined by the commissioner.
Will Bills-Bengals start over or pick up where it was left off?
If the game is played, it will pick up where it left off per the NFL’s rulebook. At the time of the pause, the Bengals led 7-3 with 6:12 left in the first quarter. They will take the field with a fresh set of downs at the Buffalo 48 since their last play was a 13-yard pass on 2nd down.
Where will Bills-Bengals make-up game be played?
The league will try to first and foremost play the game in Cincinnati as originally scheduled. The NFL’s rulebook states, the league, “will attempt to schedule the game at its original site. If unable to do so, the Commissioner will schedule it at the nearest available facility.”
Will tickets to original game be honored for Bills-Bengals makeup game?
At this point, we don’t know for certain, but presumably, the game will honor the original tickets.
