Lamar Jackson could be the New Orleans Saints’ long-term answer at QB

One thing that New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen — and assumedly the front office helping guide him — has made very clear in the 2022 season is that they are going to move on from veteran quarterback Jameis Winston. And another thing that’s quite clear from anyone watching the team is that Andy Dalton is about as far from a long-term answer as you could get.

When Drew Brees retired, a move that was then exacerbated by former head coach Sean Payton stepping away, it threw the Saints offense into disarray. We’ve seen Winston, Dalton and even Taysom Hill trotted out under center and, frankly, the results just haven’t been there. They need a long-term answer.

If there’s something that the Saints can be counted on for under the current front office regime, it’s being aggressive. This group has never been shy about moving up in the draft, spending where they deem necessary, and so on. New Orleans is the exact type of team that would be willing to make a move for a player of Lamar Jackson’s caliber, especially given their quarterback need.

Given that they have struggled a bit with the salary cap at times, it might be easier for the Saints to figure out a way to land Jackson if Baltimore tags the quarterback and then they can execute a trade. But what’s for sure is that the current Ravens signal-caller is perhaps the best option for New Orleans to find an answer for the future at the position.
