Georgia can make massive transfer portal splash look easy
The Georgia Bulldogs have the chance to make a huge addition in the transfer portal with a direct connection to South Carolina’s Jordan Burch.
The attention of Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and his staff should be firmly set on their national title game appearance coming up. But the transfer portal is also calling out for some attention.
Specifically, the Bulldogs have reason to take a look at South Carolina defensive lineman Jordan Burch, who is reportedly entering the transfer portal.
Burch, a former five-star prospect, was third among Gamecocks this past season with 60 tackles. He had 7.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 14 QB hurries and three pass break ups. He’s going to be highly sought after by many marquee schools now that his services are up for grabs again.
Georgia may have a built-in edge: Burch committed to play for former South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp coming out of high school. Muschamp is now the Bulldogs’ co-defensive coordinator.
Burch heading to Georgia would help the Bulldogs field an elite defensive front again in 2023.
If Burch wants to compete for national titles, he couldn’t do better than Georgia, the program that is going to battle for a consecutive championship on Monday.
If he wants to put himself in the best position to have NFL eyes on him for the NFL draft, Athens also checks the box.
The biggest barrier to Burch joining the Bulldogs may be the presence of freshman defensive end Mykel Williams, who has made the argument to be the guy at DE for the Bulldogs next year, and the rest of Georgia’s talented DE room. He would have to go in knowing the competition for playing time will be fierce.
There’s also the question of NIL. There will be a glut of programs out there offering big NIL packages to a player of Burch’s caliber. That’s always a wildcard in transfer portal recruiting.
