The San Francisco Giants have lost one of the members of the pitching coaching staff.
It’s been an offseason of losses for the San Francisco Giants. After the Giants appeared to have landed Arson, er, Aaron Judge in free agency, the Yankees swooped in and re-signed him.
Then, they had Carlos Correa dressed for an introductory press conference, only to lose him to the Mets (we think, anyway?) in the final seconds.
And now, they’ve also lost a member of the coaching staff on the pitching side that could prove to be equally costly. Not to mention on the pitching side of things, they also lost Carlos Rodon to the Yanks.
Matt Daniels, coordinator of pitching sciences for the Giants, is moving on
H/T to McCovey Chronicles which was on this story first. Matt Daniels, who held the title of coordinator of pitching sciences for the last four years, appears to have moved on from the Giants. It’s unclear what is next for him.

Over the last three years, the Giants’ pitching has been 7th (2022), 2nd (2021), and 8th (2020) in ERA. The Giants strikeouts per nine innings increased by 11.27 percent over the four years Daniels was with the team compared to the four years prior.
How much of that can be attributed to Daniels? It’s impossible to say right now, but it’s one of those questions that you probably don’t want to find the answer to if you’re the Giants. Clearly, pitching has been a strength for the team while Daniels has been in tow, and his departure is a loss. Compounded with the loss of Rodon, Giants pitching could be ultra disappointing next season.
Add to it that this is just one of many losses from the season so far and it only furthers the narrative that the Giants have had an all-time bad offseason.
