3) The Phillies should reunite with free agent Josh Harrison

Josh Harrison has seen better days. He has also had much more seasons than what he was able to put together the last two years. In fact, Harrison might be one of the better free agents out there teams have yet to sign.

Harrison is a second baseman/third baseman who can move around the field a lot. This has been his modus operandi from his early days with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was briefly a member of the Phillies organization prior to the 2020 season. When the delayed campaign finally did begin, the team released him. Since then, Harrison has slashed .270/.332/.390. That’s not bad at all for a guy everyone seems to be ignoring.

A reunion with Harrison would be ideal for the Phillies how now have an absence on their bench with Maton gone. As a right-handed hitter, he’d be a good option to even platoon with Bryson Stott at second base regularly. There are at-bats for him to get in Philadelphia. For a shot to win a championship, Harrison should at least consider the lesser role with the defending National League Champions.

Rather than patchwork the bench with internal options, the Phillies should be unafraid to bring in veterans. Do it now when the free agent market is open. Save the trade deadline for bigger additions you didn’t know you’d need.
