Just days after waking up, Damar Hamlin is already raising money for a new cause

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is raising money for an awesome cause as he continues to recover after suffering cardiac arrest back on Monday.

The NFL world was waiting for updates regarding Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who suffered cardiac arrested during the team’s Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals. As those in the NFL awaited for updates, there was a huge show of support for Hamlin’s charity toy drive that he started back in college in late 2020. The GoFundMe page has raised over $8.5 million as of this writing, where it had a goal of just $2,500.

Hamlin’s health has improved with each passing day, as he was taken off a breathing tube and is able to communicate.

On Sunday, after the Bills defeated the New England Patriots, Hamlin expressed his desire to raise some money for the first-responders and for the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. With that, he opened up an online store that sells t-shirts that have Hamlin’s “heart” gesture and the phrase “Did we Win?” All proceeds of sales will go to the hospital and first responders.

After being transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center in critical condition, Hamlin’s progress has improved with each passing day. Just this past Wednesday, Hamlin opened his eyes and was able to move his hands and feet. Dr. Timothy Pritts said that after Hamlin woke up, he wrote down the question “Did we win?” Pritts responded with “yes, Damar, you won. You’ve won the game of life.”

Shortly thereafter, Hamlin had his breathing tube removed and he was able to get into contact with his Bills teammates, telling them, love you boys.”

Hamlin was tweeting while watching the Bills take on the Patriots. He saw Nyheim Hines’ opening kickoff return for a touchdown and responded with “OMFG” on Twitter.

After the outpouring of support throughout the week, Hamlin decided to begin a new charitable cause to benefit the hospital that helped him after his medical scare and to first responders.
