2) MLB rumors: Why the Red Sox should trade for a Marlins pitcher

The Rafael Devers extension changed the game for the Boston Red Sox. They might not be that good this year, but they are certainly in a position to compete by next season. They aren’t phoning it in.

The Red Sox have done very little to actually improve themselves. They’ve gone light and short-term this winter with their additions. At the top of their rotation, we should see Chris Sale and Corey Kluber. James Paxton is in there somewhere as is Nick Pivetta and Garrett Whitlock.

Any of these available Marlins pitchers have the potential to be the best arm in the rotation pretty quickly. There are too many health concerns with the current starting staff in Boston. Based on some previous MLB rumors, we already know the name the Marlins would look at.

First base prospect Triston Casas was a reported trade target of Miami not long ago. He’d be a guy they could have patience with and hope he turns into the answer at first base for them. The Red Sox would have plenty of options at first base. Internally, Bobby Dalbec is not enticing but newcomer Justin Turner could give them plenty of reps at the position. Trey Mancini is still out there with few suitors as well. Temporary answers at first base are not difficult to find.
