Sean McVay hasnāt made a decision on his future with the Los Angeles Rams but his approach with his assistant coaches says a lot.
Will he stay or will he go?
Normally, that kind of question follows around players after their NFL season ends, whether mulling retirement or dealing with free agency.
For the Rams this offseason, the biggest āWhat will he decide?ā belongs to head coach Sean McVay.
And signs are not pointing in LAās favor with open season on Rams assistant coaches reportedly being allowed.
Sean McVay already has a foot out the door with Los Angeles Rams
āRams coach Sean McVay, whose future is in limbo, has permitted his coaching staff to search for other jobs without resistance, per sources. McVay said in a staff meeting that he doesnāt know what he will do next year and wonāt block those who want to explore opportunities,ā Jeremy Fowler of ESPN tweeted.
Basically, every coach in the organization has a free pass to look for a new gig, including lateral moves, which could normally be blocked.
That doesnāt sound like a winning policy for a head coach thatās returning in 2023.
What happens if a bunch of those assistants take the Rams up on that offer and find other employment, then McVay decides to return? Heād have to rebuild his coaching staff from scratch. If he didnāt think he had the energy to return next season under normal circumstances, thereās no way heād be up for adding even work to his plate with a bunch of new hires.
Telling coaches to look for jobs elsewhere is yet another indication that McVay is leaning toward leaving his post as head coach of the Rams.
It would be in LAās best interest for him to just make that decision instead of dragging it out and limiting their options in a head coaching search.
