Sources: Rockies agree to deal to avoid arbitration with left-handed pitcher
Colorado Rockies avoid arbitration with left-handed pitcher Austin Gomber.
Left-hander Austin Gomber and the Colorado Rockies are in agreement on a $1.65 million contract to avoid arbitration, according to sources familiar with the deal. MLB Trade Rumors projected Gomber for $1.8 million.
Gomber, of course, was a key part of the five-player package that Colorado received in the trade that sent Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals. In 33 games last season (17 starts), he posted a 5.56 ERA and 95/34 strikeout-to-walk ratio. In four seasons, he’s posted a 4.66 ERA in 344 career innings.
Key part of Nolan Arenado trade paying off for Rockies
Gomber, 29, marks the first Colorado player to avoid arbitration this offseason, with other players arbitration eligible being Dinelson Lamet, Brendan Rodgers and Ty Blach. Tyler Kinley, who was also arbitration eligible, agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Rockies on Nov. 18.
