3 Lamar Jackson trade destinations that haven’t been mentioned yet, No. 3: Washington Commanders

When looking at NFC teams that need a quarterback in the worst way, the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints stand out. But one team that gets overlooked are the Washington Commanders.

Since Ron Rivera took over as head coach, the Commanders built a solid defensive corps. Besides that, they have their running back rotation with Antonio Gibson and Brian Robinson, and a stacked wide receiver depth chart consisting of Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Curtis Samuel. Their biggest weakness is at quarterback.

This past season, Washington brought in Carson Wentz to see if he could turn his career around. He didn’t. They pivoted to Taylor Heinicke, who did play well enough for the Commanders to win games. However, he did have a bad Week 17 game against the San Francisco 49ers that eliminated them from playoff contention. Heinicke, while playing good enough for the Commanders, isn’t going to help them get to the next level.

Washington saw a promising performance from rookie Sam Howell, and it sounds like they’re planning to start him in 2023. But the Commanders were the lone NFC East team that didn’t make it to the playoffs. As of this writing, both the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants made it to the Divisional Round.

Trading for a quarterback like Lamar Jackson would seriously help the team compete in what has become a tough division, and they could potentially make a long-coveted deep run in the postseason.
