Predicting the best free agent the Houston Texans will sign: Mike Evans, WR

The Houston Texans’ free agency period could tell us a lot about their plans for the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. They currently own the second overall pick, which one would think is good enough to at least end up with Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud.

But, they could try to move up to no. 1 and land Bryce Young. This is a pivotal offseason for the Texans, as a couple of moves could truly change the scene of the franchise.

For the past nine years, Mike Evans has built a Hall of Fame career before the age of 30 (he turns 30 in August). He’s been the epitome of consistency since entering the league, going over 1,000 receiving yards in every season he’s been in the NFL.

Now, the Bucs have a fairly uncertain future ahead depending on what Tom Brady decides to do. But, more importantly, the Bucs need to free up some cap space and could very well do so by cutting Evans. Now, that gets tricky because they’d have to designate him as a post-June 1 cut in order to save the most money.

So, when would the Texans sign Evans? That probably won’t be determined until later, but he would give Houston exactly what they need for a young quarterback like Young or Stroud.
