Predicting the best free agent the Indianapolis Colts will sign: Geno Smith, QB

While many Indianapolis Colts fans want the team to go after a rookie quarterback to finally secure the position over the foreseeable future, that’s not what they do this year. Once more, the Colts go the veteran route by signing Geno Smith, who just enjoyed a breakout season, finally at the age of 32.

The Pro Bowl quarterback led Seattle to the postseason in a year that was supposed to be a throw-away season. He played by far the best ball of his career and now looks at his first opportunity to sign a hefty contract, which might be his only opportunity to do so.

Fortunately, the Colts have made a habit out of signing or trading for veteran quarterbacks since the retirement of Andrew Luck a few years back. They’ve tried to go the route of Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz and most recently Matt Ryan.

Now, they’ll try a fourth time with Smith, who might actually be the best out of all four of those guys. Smith proved he still has plenty to offer and is better than anyone ever anticipated him to be, throwing for 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2022.
