Bold predictions for Patriots 2023: Former head coach becomes offensive coordinator

Okay, the Patriots did this before. Matt Patricia is a former head coach, and he became offensive coordinator. This will be different. Of course, the obvious answer is Bill O’Brien. The former Houston Texans head coach and current Alabama offensive coordinator has been tied to the Patriots for weeks. It would be a good move. He was a great offensive coordinator in 2011. He was quite the head coach at Penn State and with the Texans before he was given GM duties.

However, O’Brien isn’t the only interesting OC candidate out there. There was only one head coach who lost his job on Black Monday. Kliff Kingsbury. He’s the type of character recovery project Belichick loves. Also, he is a great offensive mind. The Patriots actually make a lot of sense, and Kingsbury could get the most out of this offense if O’Brien decides to return.

We also don’t know what the future holds for Josh McDaniels. We think he’s returning to Las Vegas, but it’s not a sure thing. Mark Davis is capable of anything.

Quite possibly the weirdest one could be Scott Frost, former head coach for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and UCF Knights. He drew up phenomenal offenses for the Oregon Ducks back in the day. It seems unlikely, but it would be one of those headline-steals that Belichick loves to never talk about it.
