WNBA Free Agency: 3 potential destinations for Emma Meesseman
2. Washington Mystics
Meesseman re-signing with the Washington Mystics could be a long shot but it also makes sense at the same time. The 6-foot-4 forward was originally drafted by Washington in the 2013 WNBA draft. She also won a championship with the Mystics in 2019.
Last season, Washington struggled to score in late-game situations. Elena Delle Donne looked good throughout the season as well as Natasha Cloud and Ariel Atkins, but they often came out flat when it mattered most.
The bench for the Mystics oftentimes did not produce which hurt the team overall in crunch-time situations. Meesseman would add a much-needed veteran presence to the second unit. She could also start when the situation called for it, helping set the tone.
Oftentimes Cloud is overwhelmed by having to be the primary ball handler and having to produce on the offensive side of the ball. She also has to defend at a high level as well. Having another scorer in the lineup, even in the frontcourt, will make everyone else’s jobs easier.
Washington needs to consider signing EM in the offseason.
