Courtney Vandersloot is entering WNBA free agency as an experienced veteran who could join a contender, lead a young team or help a middling team break out.

Courtney Vandersloot is one of the premier playmakers in the WNBA. She is the perfect candidate for a contender that’s in need of a table setter, especially one who will limit their mistakes. On the flip side, Courtney could lead a young team to new heights and fast-track their development. Vandersloot also brings a grittiness on the defensive end that any basketball team would benefit from.

The Chicago Sky will look to retain her, but with the potential departure of Candace Parker, Emma Meesseman and Allie Quigley, it may be time to turn a new page in the Windy City. It’s also worth mentioning that she is married to Quigley and the two have been teammates for the past decade. As they’re both free agents, they could be a package deal.

Where could Courtney Vandersloot go if she leaves the Chicago Sky?

3. Seattle Storm

With the retirement of Sue Bird, Seattle needs a point guard for the first time in 21 years. Compound this with countless reports and reporters endorsing Breanna Stewart to the New York Liberty and the Storm should be looking to add Vandersloot early in free agency with the hope of retaining Stewie.

The chance to take over from Bird is a high-pressure role that could lead to criticism and failure or glory and triumph. Courtney Vandersloot has shown nothing but stellar play and professionalism throughout her WNBA career so it’s fair to assume she would receive the latter. The prospect of taking over from Sue and leading this team to a Finals berth would make Sloot an instant fan favorite. They are huge shoes to fill, everyone in Seattle knows that, but if they are filled then everyone would understand the magnitude of such an accomplishment.

Vandersloot would be the perfect replacement for Bird and the transition would be seamless. This would prime the Storm to make a run at the 2023 WNBA championship. If the Storm can sell Stewie on one more run, a “Last Dance,” so to speak, then Seattle would remain one of the strongest teams in the WNBA.
