Everything to know about Cowboys kicker Brett Maher
By Mark Powell
The Dallas Cowboys hope to advance to the NFC Championship on Sunday afternoon, but they’ll have to do so despite some sketchy kicking from Brett Maher.
Brett Maher had been dependable all season long prior to missing four extra points in Dallas’ Wild Card round matchup against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The solution to Maher’s struggles is simple — either sign a different kicker or score touchdowns. When healthy, Maher is one of the better kicker in the game, which makes his recent case of the yips all the more confusing.
Kicker missed four extra points
No kicker has missed four extra points in a playoff game, and that’s what happened last week for the Dallas Cowboys. They can ill afford a similar performance this Sunday, as the 49ers are a tougher matchup than the Buccaneers. It doesn’t help that this Sunday’s game is on the road.
How old is Brett Maher?
Brett Maher is 33 years old, so he’s been around for quite some time. Maher has played for at least four different NFL teams, so he hasn’t exactly found a stable home, either. He’s on a one-year contract with Dallas, and it’s safe to say his Cowboys career could end poorly based on how Sunday’s game goes.
Brett Maher net worth
Brett Maher’s net worth based on his NFL earning is around $5 million. He’s currently on a one-year, near $1 million deal, so the pressure is on for the Dallas kicker to contribute on Sunday, or face an exit as the scapegoat. Maher has jumped around quite a bit, as he signed with the Browns as a rookie, then played in different stints with the Cowboys, Saints, 49ers and Jets.
Brett Maher meme
NFL fans had plenty of fun with Maher during the Wild Card round, thus making him a meme on social media. While kickers typically go through some struggles, what we witness last weekend is a rarity.
There were plenty more where those came from.
Is Brett Maher playing for Cowboys?
Brett Maher is playing for Dallas on Sunday. Maher was essentially heckled by 49ers players during warmups. Robbie Gould ended this display, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones even came down to the field to console Maher and make sure he was good to go for game time.
Kickers are their own species at times. One miss can turn any kicker from Justin Tucker to Mike Vanderjagt.
Unfortunately for Maher, he missed four.
Brett Maher missed extra point
Maher wears No. 2 for the Dallas Cowboys. Depending how this game turns out, they may be more popular with the Dallas haters than actual fans. Maher missed his first extra point of the divisional round, as well, as the 49ers blocked the kick. Based on FOX’s replay, the ball would have missed the left upright even had it not been blocked.
