Forget the McVay tree, let the Cowboys go poach Sean McVay from the Rams
Though it has admittedly cooled down lately, there was a run for a while where simply having been in a room with Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay was enough of a qualification to be a head coaching candidate. That speaks to the job that McVay did with the help of an aggressive front office.
Yes, he needed the Matthew Stafford trade to ultimately win a Super Bowl, but he also made a Super Bowl with Jared Goff at the helm. More importantly, he learned his lessons from that run to adjust at quarterback and become a better coach after he was outclassed by Bill Belichick to lose out on winning a ring that year.
The interesting part is the retirement rumors this offseason. There were reports that McVay was thinking about stepping away as, essentially, he didnāt want to be part of a rebuild in Los Angeles. While it now appears that heās staying, the Cowboys swooping in and trading for the head coach would change his calculus. Dallas isnāt rebuilding; itās a team ready to win, more so than they have or likely can under McCarthy.
So if weāre dreaming, why not make McVay an option? If Jerry Jones is willing to do whatever it takes to win a Super Bowl, why not make an all-out pursuit for one of the best young minds in football to take this team to the next level? It only makes sense and, even after this disastrous season for the Rams, thereās still no arguing heād be a substantial upgrade over McCarthy.
