Every year, baseball fans wait and see if the members of the Baseball Writer’s Association of America will elect a player into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. There were instances in which no eligible player was elected into Cooperstown, with 2021 being the latest instance. Fans wondered if 2023 would be the same case, considering the lack of superstar power on the ballot.
The baseball world received word that there would indeed be a player elected to the Hall of Fame off of the ballot.
On Tuesday, the National Baseball Hall of Fame announced that former St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Scott Rolen will be inducted into the 2023 class. Rolen received 76.3-percent of the vote, five votes above the 75.0-percent threshold.
Rolen will join Fred McGriff on the stage at the National Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony on July 23. McGriff received induction by way of the Contemporary Era Committee.

Rolen was a second-round pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1993 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut in 1996 with the Phillies, won the NL Rookie of the Year award in 1997, and solidified his status as one of the best defensive third basemen in the league throughout his career.
After spending the better part of seven seasons with the Phillies, Rolen joined the Cardinals during the 2002 campaign. In 2006, Rolen won his first World Series title after the Cardinals defeated the Detroit Tigers in five games.
Rolen played for the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2008 and 2009 seasons, and finished his career with the Cincinnati Reds from 2009 until 2012.
