Michael Harris II will fill up the stat sheet for the Braves in his first full season
Michael Harris II was called up early in the 2022 season amid a slew of injuries in the outfield straight from Double-A ball. While that might be a big jump for some, it didn’t appear to be for Harris as he arrived in Atlanta and immediately looked like a star.
Playing in 114 games, Harris slashed .297/.339/.514 with 19 home runs, 27 doubles, 64 RBI, 20 stolen bases and 75 runs scored. Mind you, he did this at just 21 years old after being drafted in the third round out of high school in 2019. And all of that doesn’t even take into account that he’s already establishing himself as one of the best defensive centerfielders in MLB this early in his career.
To see Harris take a step forward would be truly remarkable given how exceptionally well he played as a rookie, but it’s not out of the question either. For a guy to come up without ever even playing Triple-A baseball before and have that much success, the natural regression of pitchers getting a scouting report on a young hitter and so on seem like less of an issue. The kid simply has the goods needed to be great in this league.
When you combine what Harris has already shown with the bat and his glove, it feels like he could come out and put up ridiculous numbers and highlight-reel plays, which plays right into him eventually getting onto the NL All-Star team in only his second season.
