Braves rumors: Brian Snitker has emphatic answer to Trevor Bauer question
Braves manager Brian Snitker had no hesitation in shutting down the idea of controversial pitcher Trevor Bauer coming to play for Atlanta.
It was a simple question: Would the Braves consider signing Trevor Bauer?
It was an even simpler answer: No.
Braves manager Brian Snitker wasted no time making his feelings on that particular hypothetical personnel move clear when asked on Saturday. He did it with that single word and a head shake that spoke volumes.
Brian Snitker shut down Trevor Bauer question instantly
Bauer was reinstated by MLB in December after his 324-game suspension for violating the league’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse policy was reduced by an arbitrator to 194 games. He was accused by three different women of violent sexual assault. While no criminal charges were pursued by authorities, MLB found enough evidence in their independent investigation to justify the historically lengthy suspension.
The Dodgers officially released the pitcher in January, opening the door for another club to come in and sign him on the cheap. However, no team has taken that step weeks after he went on the open market.
Snitker’s reaction to the question says it all. Bauer is radioactive. Interest in signing him appears low, if not absent, across the league. It’s been a pleasant surprise for those bracing for the prospect of seeing a credibly accused abuser get a pass because they’re good at sports.
It doesn’t help that officials within the Dodgers organization described his lack of remorse or that the player himself has done nothing to help the rehabilitation of his image.
One day, some team may take a chance on Bauer, accepting the outrage and controversy that move is sure to incite, but it doesn’t look like the Braves have any plans to be that team.
