3. Falcons pulling off a Justin Fields trade would bring the QB home to Georgia

Though he starred at Ohio State and was drafted as a Buckeye, college football fans will recall that Justin Fields began his NCAA career with the Georgia Bulldogs. After not winning the starting job as a freshman, though, he transferred to Columbus and the rest is history. Having said that, he ended up at Georgia because, simply, that was the hometown program giving him a call.

Now it turns out that one of the teams in the NFL quarterback market this offseason could also represent a homecoming for Fields. The Atlanta Falcons performed solidly this season overall and showed some reason for optimism moving forward. However, the big hindrance was the quarterback play of Marcus Mariota and Desmond Ridder.

Ridder is the wild card because, coming out of his rookie season, some want to give him the chance to have a full season as the starter to see what he’s capable of. With that said, Fields is a more proven commodity at this point, which could sway the Falcons to make a trade that would look something like this.

Atlanta would likely throw in a seventh-round pick as a sweetener in this situation, which would make sense if they’re truly interested in making this trade. But they’d then have a strong overall offensive core to build on and then work on the defense in free agency and the rest of the draft. Chicago, meanwhile, still gets another Top 10 pick and can build further around Young.
