2. The Saints roster really just needs a QB and a Justin Fields trade fills that hole
Even with how bad the NFC South was this past season, the fact that the New Orleans Saints were even remotely competitive to potentially win the division given the play they got from Andy Dalton at quarterback throughout the season was remarkable. Itās clear that this team has a strong overall roster that can compete for playoff spots but the quarterback spot is the problem.
If thereās one thing the Saints are known for, itās their aggressiveness on the trade market, particularly in the offseason. Theyāre known for identifying the player or prospect they desire and simply making it happen. But thatās also a problem for them in pursuit of a Justin Fields trade as New Orleans doesnāt have a first-round pick to deal in the 2023 NFL Draft after trading up for Chris Olave in the 2022 draft.
Because of that, the Saints would have to be ultra-aggressive to try and lure Fields from the Bears in a trade, at least in comparison to the deals that other teams can propose to Chicago. That would probably end up looking something like this.
While Chicago would only get a second and a fifth-rounder in this yearās draft, selecting Young at No. 1 overall does represent a longer-term project for the franchise. As such, getting the Saintsā first-round pick next year would give them an ace in the hole moving forward to flesh out a barren roster with, which would work in their favor.
