Should J.J. McCarthy play up to his standard, Michigan can win the national title

One could argue no quarterback in the Power Five faces more pressure this season than Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy. The former five-star has been part of back-to-back Big Ten champions in Ann Arbor, but a single playoff victory has evaded the Wolverines. With so much talent returning to Michigan next year, will McCarthy be able to put it all together to become a Wolverines legend?

With the help of a two-time reigning Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line and two elite running backs in Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, it is McCarthy’s time to rise and shine. The talent around him should elevate his play. What will help McCarthy in his third season at Michigan is to design a few plays offensively that uses his arm as well as his legs so he can be unstoppable.

Should McCarthy play up to his lofty standard, Michigan can win its first national title since 1997. The big-game experiences he had a season ago will either serve him or write a bad narrative on him. Regardless, McCarthy is the best returning quarterback in the Big Ten on what will probably be the best team in that particular Power Five conference for the third consecutive college season.

It would not be the least bit shocking if McCarthy did put it all together to be a Heisman finalist.
