NFL mock draft: 5 QBs who could be the next Brock Purdy
By John Buhler
Whatever Max Duggan has, he has it as the grittiest quarterback coming out
He may look so much like Chad Pennington, but Max Duggan can play. Much like his NFL doppelgänger, Duggan starred in college for a program he helped take to new heights. Like Pennington throwing to Randy Moss, Duggan did benefit from throwing to a first-round wide receiver in Quentin Johnston. However, it is Duggan’s game between the ears that separates him.
For Duggan to have overcome a heart procedure and be benched by new head coach Sonny Dykes, to then become the greatest player TCU has had since LaDainian Tomlinson is absolutely amazing. Duggan can run and throw, but his best attributes are his instincts and willingness to win. The guy is grittier than sandpaper, which will help him have staying power in the NFL. Duggan totally has it.
Like Purdy, Duggan is not physically imposing. They both had a great deal of success in the Big 12 without ever winning the conference. Odds are, Duggan will be a high-end backup in the league, but it may take a few spots for him to find his kingmaker. He is not afraid of the big stage, or crunch time. In fact, he tends to thrive in those types of situations. Football is situational after all.
Of the five quarterbacks up for discussion, Duggan is the one who will stick in the NFL the longest.
