NFL mock draft: 5 QBs who could be the next Brock Purdy
By John Buhler
Aidan O’Connell banked a ton of starts to help turn Purdue Boilermakers around
He may be one of the older prospects entering the draft, but Aidan O’Connell was a huge reason why the Purdue Boilermakers had an excellent run of late under their previous regime. While stars like Rondale Moore and George Karlaftis got more notoriety in West Lafayette, it was O’Connell who was running the Purdue offense for Jeff Brohm. Together, they won the Big Ten West in 2022.
O’Connell is every bit the pocket passer, but he can make all the throws. Mobility is not his forte, but O’Connell’s innate ability to distribute the ball well gives him a good shot at having staying power in the league. While he may not have it in him to orchestrate a run to a conference title bout like Purdy did with the 49ers last year, since when does Purdue ever go to Indianapolis?
Look. O’Connell is not going to be anywhere as good professionally as Purdue GOAT Drew Brees, but can he be Kyle Orton? Can he be David Blough? Can he be Gary Danielson? Okay, hopefully not CBS’ most controversial football analyst, but the next Bob Griese will have to do then… All jokes aside, there is something there with O’Connell that will get him drafted. Maybe it works out, too?
