What Joe Burrow told Patrick Mahomes after AFC Championship Game
By Scott Rogust
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow had a four-word message for Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes after the AFC Championship Game.
Last season, the Cincinnati Bengals got the better of the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game to reach Super Bowl 56. One year later, the two teams met once again in the title game, with a trip to the big game in Arizona on the line. There was plenty of trash talk in the lead-up to the game, mostly from the Cincinnati side, but it was Kansas City who got the last laugh. The Chiefs are heading to Super Bowl 57 after defeating the Bengals 23-20.
After the game, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes met with Bengals signal caller Joe Burrow at midfield. As the two exchanged words, Burrow had a simple four-word message for Mahomes.
“Go win it now.”

This was quite the battle between both Burrow and Mahomes, the fourth time the two quarterbacks faced off against one another. Entering the game, Burrow won the first three meetings, and Mahomes was playing through a high ankle sprain the round prior. But, it was Mahomes who finally earned a win over the Burrow-led Bengals.
In the game, the Chiefs held the lead for the majority of the game, which Mahomes contributed to with two touchdown passes in the game. One to tight end Travis Kelce to increase their lead to 13-3 in the second quarter, and the other to wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to give Kansas City to 20-13 in the third quarter.
But when it mattered most, Mahomes stepped up on the final drive, getting a first down on a five-yard run, and got another 15-yards added to it after Bengals defensive end Joseph Ossai pushed him while he was out of bounds. That set up Harrison Butker’s game-winning 45-yard field goal.
As for Burrow, he had some clutch plays as well, such as his 35-yard pass to wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase on fourth-and-six in the fourth quarter. That set up Samaje Perine’s touchdown run to tie the game up at 20-20.
Mahomes completed 29-of-43 pass attempts for 326 yards and the two aforementioned touchdowns.
Burrow, meanwhile, threw for 270 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions while completing 26-of-41 pass attempts.
Mahomes and the Chiefs will now be competing in their third Super Bowl in four years. Looking to win the franchise’s third Lombardi Trophy, they’ll have to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles, who are led by fellow NFL MVP finalist Jalen Hurts.
