The knee-jerk reaction to this is “Absolutely not,” but hear us out. Russell Wilson is currently ranked sixth in all-time passing yards with 40,583 yards along with 308 touchdowns in his decade-long career.

He quickly became the laughingstock on the Denver Broncos this past season, partly due to his offensive shortcomings and partly due to his corny phrases — “Let’s ride” — that naturally led to ridicule.

Yet Wilson could in fact “ride” in 2023 and beyond under the heavy hand of Sean Payton, the newly-minted Broncos head coach.

Payton will likely need a few years to get this Denver team into perennial playoff-ready shape, but if anyone can bring out the best in a quarterback, it’s Sean Payton. He successfully reined in the pick-prone Jameis Winston back on the Saints, and while he can’t solve Wilson’s glaring flaws as a signal-caller (short, aging, not as mobile), he can help Wilson find some semblance of rhythm on a talented Broncos squad.

With a wideout room of Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, and Tim Patrick, Wilson could feasibly enjoy much more success in the air next season. He’s 34 years old, so he would hypothetically need to pass for 4,500 yards every season for the next six or seven years to get close to Brady’s total.

Some would say it’s not very realistic. Others would say there’s still a chance.
