Possible Derek Carr rumors outcome: Traded to Saints
Insiders around the league have floated the Saints as a possible trade partner for Derek Carr. New Orleans and Carr fit pretty well for a variety of reasons. The Saints have a decent roster with quarterback remaining one of the most important and only holes. They also can’t quite play in the open market since they are more in the hole relative to the salary cap than any other team in the NFL.
So a trade here would make more sense than a release-and-sign.
The report from Friday was from Jeremy Fowler and built a little bit of a framework around what the Saints could offer, referencing the first- and second-round picks they just received from the Broncos in return for Sean Payton’s coaching rights.
Sending a first out for Carr would be an absolute disaster. But the Saints have been a bit of a disaster the last 8 months or so, so that makes some sense.
