Manny Machado can opt out of his contract after the 2023 season. If he does, here’s a way-too-early look at four free-agent fits.

Superstar infielder Manny Machado can opt out of the remaining five years, $150 million of his contract with the San Diego Padres after the 2023 season. If he does indeed exercise the clause, there should be no shortage of suitors after the 30-year-old.

Just look at Machado’s numbers.

In 150 games last season, he hit .298/.366/.531 with an .898 OPS, 32 home runs and 102 RBI.

In 11 career seasons, he’s hitting .282/.341/.493 with an .833 OPS, 283 home runs and 853 RBI while making six All-Star teams and placing as high as second in the MVP voting.

So what teams might be interested in Machado if he becomes a free agent? Here’s an early look at four teams that could be involved.
