Mavericks starting lineup after Kyrie Irving trade
The Dallas Mavericks got the Kyrie Irving trade done with the Nets. Now, what will the Mavericks lineup look like with their newest addition?
Though there were multiple interested parties, the Dallas Mavericks were the winners of the latest trade deadline sweepstakes, working out a Kyrie Irving trade with the Brooklyn Nets.
As reported by multiple sources, the Mavs are sending Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a 2029 first-round pick, and second-round picks in 2027 and 2019 to the Nets for Irving. Luka Doncic has now just acquired his running mate in a lineup that will surely not be dependent on the current Dallas superstar to be creating offensively seemingly all by himself.
What was supposed to be a “gap year” for the Mavs in many instances has now resulted in the team going all-in with the Irving trade. They’ve now acquire an All-NBA-caliber talent to pair with Doncic. Once the Slovenian star returns from injury, it creates an intriguing lineup.
Here’s what that starting lineup could look like with the newest addition in Dallas.
Mavericks roster: Starting lineup after the Kyrie Irving trade
- Guard: Luka Doncic
- Guard: Kyrie Irving
- Wing: Reggie Bullock
- Big: Dwight Powell
- Big: Christian Wood
Whenever Doncic is fully back in the lineup, Dallas will still have some injuries to concern themselves with. We could see either Davis Bertans or Maxi Kleber (or both) in the Mavericks lineup when they get healthy, but for now, it feels likely that they would run with Dwight Powell as the other big alongside Christian Wood.
Tim Hardaway Jr. is actually the most talented option to start on the wing but his scoring off of the bench as a reserve could be more valuable. As such, it makes more sense overall to have Reggie Bullock, especially with how he fits next to Doncic and Irving.
As the Mavs get healthy, though, they could be a sneaky threat to win the Western Conference.
