Why Phillies second baseman Bryson Stott will have a better year in 2023

Bryson Stott got thrown into the fire last year before he may have been ready. It felt like a grind with him at times. He still managed to end the year batting .234/.295/.358. It’s not too shabby for someone obviously out of his element at one point in his rookie year.

Now the starting second baseman for the Phillies, Stott will have a little less pressure on him defensively. He actually played well at second base last season. The change may ultimately help him turn into a better-rounded player.

There aren’t too many professional numbers of his to cite as a reason for quick growth. Stott dominated in the minor leagues prior to his promotion, quickly jumping through three levels in 2021 while hitting .299/.390/.486. Outside of an unforeseen sophomore slump, Stott’s game should be even better in 2023.

One helpful addition to the roster could be the acquisition of Josh Harrison. The right-handed hitting veteran could provide the Phillies with some regular starts at second base when the team faces a lefty pitcher. In doing so, Stott’s end-of-season numbers may look more delightful if he can crush righties especially well.

However the Phillies do decide to use Stott and occasionally plug Harrison into the lineup, everyone should anticipate improvements from one of the more exciting young players the organization has developed.
