Braves rumors: Sign Jurickson Profar

Atlanta has a need in the outfield, hence their recent desperation trades and signings for the likes of Eli White and Jordan Luplow. The better, and perhaps more expensive option, is Jurickson Profar.

The Braves don’t want to be in a position where they are giving Marcell Ozuna consistent playing time. First, Ozuna has struggled to get on-base the past few seasons. He is the definition of boom or bust, with very little boom of late. Second, he can’t stay out of trouble off the field. This includes a DUI and domestic violence allegation.

Atlanta is stuck paying Ozuna because of an ill-time contract he signed just prior to his off-field issues. They’ve had trouble dumping him onto another team, as well.

So, what is Alex Anthopoulos to do? Atlanta and Liberty Media are reportedly committed to fielding a top-5 payroll, if they must. Signing Jurickson Profar is in their best interest. Profar can play at least three positions, and hit from both sides of the plate. He is the ultimate weapon especially come the postseason.

Profar slashed .243/.331/.391 last year with moderate power. He is not about to hit in the middle of this stacked Braves lineup, but he provides far more value than the likes of Ozuna, White and Luplow. Profar is comfortable in left field, shortstop and at second base. Two of those positions, at the very least, are huge needs for this Braves team.
