Josh Jacobs: Aaron Rodgers trade could sway him toward Raiders reunion
By Scott Rogust
Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs feels adding quarterback Aaron Rodgers would be huge for the team entering the 2023 season.
Ever since the Green Bay Packers season ended, the talk of quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ status with the team has only increased with each passing day. If the Packers were to move on from Rodgers and put Jordan Love as their starter, the NFL world is wondering where the former four-time NFL MVP would land. One fo the first teams he was linked to was the New York Jets. But recently, the Las Vegas Raiders have gained steam. Whether that’s through reports, Rodgers’ words himself, or wide receiver Davante Adams pitching for the quarterback.
The latest member of the Raiders to be on board the “Rodgers to the Raiders” train is running back and impending free agent Josh Jacobs. While speaking with Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Jacobs said that the team bringing in Rodgers could affect his plans to remain with the Raiders.
“Of course, it’s A-Rod. That’s Aaron Rodgers,” Jacobs said. “But yeah, he’s a dog. If he was to come over here, I feel like that would change the aspect of a lot of things.”

Jacobs is scheduled to become a free agent, as he didn’t have his fifth-year option picked up by the Raiders by the new regime of general manager Dave Ziegler and head coach Josh McDaniels, who were hired just last year. For Jacobs, he had quite the season that would undoubtedly allow him to cash in on a big deal.
In 17 games this season, Jacobs led the league with 1,653 rushing yards, 2,053 scrimmage yards, and 393 touches from scrimmage. Jacobs also had the longest run of the season measuring in at 86 yards, which was Las Vegas’ game-winning touchdown in overtime in their 40-34 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 12.
While at the Pro Bowl Games events, Jacobs was asked about if he has had contract negotiations, and he said the two sides have not spoken about a new deal. When The Athletic’s Tashan Reed asked Jacobs about if he would have an issue with being franchise tagged, he said “hero turned villain.”
The Raiders are in need of a new quarterback, as they are expected to part ways with Derek Carr, who they benched for the final two games of the season. With Carr set to be guaranteed $40 million on his contract by Feb. 15, the team is expected to either trade or cut him, with the latter looking the most likely.
If the Raiders were to get Rodgers, it would be a huge get for the roster. Not only would he get to play again alongside Adams, but it could play a role in Jacobs staying in Las Vegas.
