Brooklyn Nets’ Kevin Durant will be sidelined at least one more game due to a sprained right MCL he suffered on January 8.

The Brooklyn Nets will take on the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night at the Barclays Center, and superstar Kevin Durant will unfortunately sit out as he continues to recover from his knee injury.

It’s been nearly a month since Durant since stepped onto the court, and there is ongoing hope that he can return before the All-Star Game on February 19. Durant has averaged 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game this season.

Based on today’s official team injury report, however, Durant has already been ruled out of the Clippers game.

After news of Kyrie Irving’s shocking trade to the Dallas Mavericks, rumors will continue to swirl surrounding Durant’s tense future in Brooklyn. Within the span of a year, the Nets’ “Big Three” has dissipated with Irving and former teammate James Harden traded to different teams.

Some may view Durant’s choice to leave the Golden State Warriors back in 2019 as a colossal mistake, but what’s done is done.

The Nets will have to manage without Durant as they try to barrel forward after the Irving trade. Currently sitting in fourth place in the East, the Nets recently came off a thrilling victory against the Washington Wizards in which combo guard Cam Thomas put up 44 points to lead the improbably 125-123 comeback victory.

Thomas, a former first-round pick by Brooklyn, may be expected to carry more of the scoring workload with Irving out of the picture and with the Nets’ starting lineup in a bit of a crisis.

Both Thomas and point guard Edmond Summer, who filled in at Irving’s position in the Wizards game and scored a career-high 29 points, will need to put together dominant performances in this tough stretch of the season to keep the Nets’ top-seeded playoff hopes alive.

In the next five games, Brooklyn will face the Clippers, Phoenix Suns, Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers, and New York Knicks.
