Lamar Jackson rumors: 3 teams that should jump at trade amid contract disparity
By John Buhler
New York Jets reek of desperation, so this trade would be right up their alley
If you are the New York Jets, do you want to make the AFC playoffs or not? No organization has been worse over the last decade-plus than Gang Green. As with the Raiders, the Jets could be in on Aaron Rodgers as well. Should history repeat itself, Rodgers will bomb in his one year in New York before replacing Kirk Cousins and almost leading the Minnesota Vikings to the Super Bowl.
As with the Silver and Black, Gang Green will have to pay a premium to land Jackson in-conference. The three biggest differences between the Jets are Raiders are as follows. One, the Raiders still have equity with their fanbase from a playoff berth only two years ago. Two, the Jets’ roster is being built, while the Raiders is being maintained. And three, New York has a worse pick.
New York blew it catastrophically by taking Zach Wilson out of BYU over Justin Fields. Everybody with a brain could have told you that was a horrible decision in the moment. However, the Jets have something good going outside the quarterback position. Thus, they are not in a position to draft Wilson’s replacement this soon. It is why they have no choice but to trade for one this year.
After missing out on Cousins to the Vikings, the Jets will make sure Jackson is ready for takeoff.
