NBA Trade Rumors: Jazz look ready to move Jarred Vanderbilt
Jazz forward Jarred Vanderbilt is considered one of the most likely NBA trade candidates ahead of Thursday’s deadline, but where to remains in question.
As reported by Tony Jones of the Athletic (subscription required), it seems that the Jazz are set on trading Jarred Vanderbilt somewhere with the return being at least multiple second-round picks.
It was clear that Utah was making Vanderbilt available but it was not guaranteed that Utah would actually trade the player. Jones calls the market a “robust” one for the young player.
As Jones said in his report, it seems that at least one western conference team has a trade offer for him that would get back the Jazz multiple second-round picks. While Jones did not say who it was in the report, one could assume the Clippers, Trailblazers or Nuggets may have made an offer for Vanderbilt already or will at some point before the trade deadline.
Additionally, the Sixers, Knicks, and others in the East seem interested, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports.
NBA Trade Rumors: Jazz could get multiple picks for Jarred Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt is a wing who has another year of cheap salary after this season. The young player is perfect for adding to any championship contender as he is a solid defender who is shooting the ball from three well enough (33 percent) this season to make him a three-and-D player.
While a lot of this report could be a leverage play by the Jazz to make sure they get a first-round pick for Vanderbilt, it seems that Utah will at least get multiple second-round picks for him.
It will be tough to get an actual first from any team because of how dried up the interested team’s tradeable firsts are. This makes a trade for him complicated because contending teams don’t want to give up one of their last remaining trade pieces to get a solid but only good three-and-D wing.
A team like the Clippers make might a lot of sense if they were able to secure a ball-handler before trading a first for Vanderbilt. LA is limited in the number of picks they can use in a trade and a ball-handler seems to be more of a priority for them.
With the number of suiters that Vanderbilt has, the Jazz may find a team desperate enough to trade a first for Vanderbilt. If the Jazz wants to wait on a first, that deal will probably take until the last three hours of the deadline to make it through.
