Patrick Mahomes updates injury status at Super Bowl media night

Patrick Mahomes gave an update on his injured ankle at Super Bowl media night that should have Chiefs fans feeling even more confident.

There have been a slew of updates on Patrick Mahomes’ injured ankle since the AFC Championship. This one comes straight from the horse’s mouth.

Mahomes appeared at Super Bowl LVII media night and gave reporters a sense of how his ankle is feeling.

“It’s definitely better than it was this time last week before the game,” Mahomes said to the crowd in Glendale, AZ.

The quarterback was able to practice the whole week before the AFC Championship Game against the Bengals despite suffering the high ankle sprain the week before in the Divisional Round against the Jaguars. He finished with 195 yards passing and two touchdowns in the win over Jacksonville.

His heavily-wrapped ankle still clearly bothered him in the win over the Bengals but he was able to fight through the pain to send his team to the Super Bowl. He tore up the Cincinnati defense with 326 yards and two touchdowns in one of the gutsier performances of his career.

He is expected to continue practicing without limitations for the rest of the week. That’s assuming there are no setbacks on the ankle.

In theory, every day Mahomes gets further away from the initial injury means he’s a day healthier. The ankle will have had two weeks of rest between the conference title game and the Super Bowl when it arrives on Sunday. At the kickoff of Super Bowl 57, Mahomes will have had just over three weeks of recovery time on the injury.

Mahomes already has one Super Bowl victory to his name, but after suffering disappointment in Super Bowl LV you can bet he will give his all whether his ankle is 100 percent or not.
