Clyde Edwards-Helaire injury: Andy Reid reveals plan for RB in Super Bowl week
By Josh Wilson
Having Clyde Edwards-Helaire back from injury would be massive for the Kansas City Chiefs’ chances against the Philadelphia Eagles. Here’s how that looks.
With both quarterbacks from the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles nursing injuries, it’s no surprise that the theme of questions from the top-down at media week is trending toward injuries. Outside of the two signal-callers, both squads have plenty of players being impacted by moves on the injury report that fans are curious about.
One of the most intriguing variables is running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. The Chiefs thought they might be able to get him back for the AFC Championship, but they played it safe and just recently pulled him off the IR.
That said, CEH hasn’t played since late November when he suffered a high ankle sprain against the Chargers. So there are significant question marks in-play about how much he’ll be able to do that far removed from playing in a game.
Andy Reid speaks to the plan for the week ahead with Clyde Edwards-Helaire
Chiefs head coach, speaking to the media on Tuesday in Glendale, Arizona, said that the plan is to first see what Clyde Edwards-Helaire can do and then assess where they’re at.
It followed Reid saying that every active player participated in practice.
Beyond CEH, the Chiefs got lots of weapons moving in the right direction to kick off their week. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Kadarius Toney look good according to Reid, which is terrifying to hear if you’re an Eagles fan. Even hobbled and with a skeleton crew, Patrick Mahomes is frigthening. Give him more and more weapons, and that intimidation factor only amplifies.
We’ll have to wait and see how the week continues for CEH. It seems as if at this point, the only thing holding him back is a lack of familiarity with the offense due to all the time he’s missed. At this point, it wouldn’t be a massive shock to see him participate in the big game in some capacity.
In 10 games this season, CEH rushed for 30.2 yards per game and scored three touchdowns. Rookie Isiah Pacheco has been the lead rusher in his absence.
