Even the 49ers kicker is throwing shade at Jalen Hurts, Eagles

San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould explained why he believes the Kansas City Chiefs have the advantage over the Philadelphia Eagles and quarterback Jalen Hurts in Super Bowl 57.

When it comes to the San Francisco 49ers, they have been very vocal about their thoughts on the Philadelphia Eagles and how the NFC Championship Game went down. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk said the Kansas City Chiefs passing offense would “expose” Philadelphia’s defense. Running back Christian McCaffrey said he wished the team had another shot at the Eagles with a healthy quarterback for a full game. Now, the latest 49ers player to share their thoughts about the Eagles is kicker Robbie Gould.

While speaking with sportcaster Trey Wingo of The 33rd Team, Gould spoke about why he liked the Chiefs’ chances against the Eagles. While mentioning the Chiefs’ experience in the Super Bowl under head coach Andy Reid and their speed on offense as why he gives the edge to the Chiefs, one aspect that he believes can lead Kansas City to victory is ‘if they make Jalen Hurts play quarterback.” As in, make him make throws from the pocket.

"“From experience and talent, I like Kansas City over Philadelphia, and I’m not taking anything away from Philly,” said Gould. “I think they’re a really good football team. Obviously they have to be a good football team to get there, and they’ve done it pretty convincingly. They’ve never had to play in the playoffs a full game yet, right? So you get in a game where they’re down…If Kansas City gets up on them early, it might take them a little bit out of their game with the run plan, which I assume they’re trying to get going first to get Jalen Hurts going. But if you make Jalen Hurts play quarterback, you’re probably going to have a pretty solid day on defense.”"

Gould’s comments may not fly over too well with Eagles fans.

The kicker does have experience playing both teams in big games in recent years. Not only did he play the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game last year, but also against the Chiefs in Super Bowl 54 three years ago. In fact, Gould mentions in the clip above that he remembers the Chiefs jogging through warmups that it was like they were conserving their energy.

Hurts when healthy has shown to be a game-changer for the Eagles. He has the ability to make throws to his top targets in A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert, and make plays with his legs.

This season, Hurts played in 15 regular-season games, missing two due to a sprained throwing shoulder. In the games he played in, Hurts threw for 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions while completing 66.5-percent of his passes. Hurts also ran for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns on 165 carries.

Hurts has the chance to further prove his critics wrong by leading the Eagles to their second-ever Super Bowl title and outplaying Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
