9. Eagles 41, Patriots 33 (LII)

It was a wildly entertaining game that saw the top two seeds in their respective conferences combine for 74 points, the second-most in a Super Bowl.

Five years ago against the Patriots, Pederson and offensive coordinator Frank Reich kept Bill Belichick’s defense on its toes. Surprisingly, Philadelphia rushed for 164 yards thanks mainly to a backfield of LeGarrette Blount, Jay Ajayi, and Corey Clement.

Philadelphia owned a 15-3 second quarter and a 22-12 edge at halftime. The latter was due to Nick Foles catching a one-yard TD pass from tight end Trey Burton aka the “Philly Special” with 34 seconds before intermission.

The defending Super Bowl champion Patriots would not go away and eventually took a 33-32 lead with 9:22 to play. The Eagles answered with a 14-play, 75-yard march that consumed 7:01 and concluded with an 11-yard touchdown strike to Zach Ertz.

Tom Brady would throw for an NFL postseason record of 505 yards and three scores. Late in the game and with Philadelphia protecting a 38-33 lead, the veteran signal-caller was sacked by Brandon Graham. Brady fumbled and Eagles’ defensive end Derek Barnett made the recovery. It led to an insurance field goal and the Eagles had their first NFL championship since 1960.
