Terrence Ross just become the best player on the buyout market after being waived by the Magic. What can this veteran contribute? What teams will be interested in the wing-man?

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Terrence Ross has been waived by the Orlando Magic. While Ross is still a solid three-and-D player, he is an aging vet and it doesn’t make sense for the developing Magic to keep him.

Ross, who has been in trade rumors and connected to a lot of teams for what feels like a couple of seasons, can be a solid rotational player or even start for a playoff team if in the right spot.

Ross will make a difference on any team. He is the type of player that is needed in the NBA today. The vet may look for long-term security when looking at a team, but it might not make sense as interested teams don’t have any cap space.

Terrence Ross buyout destinations: Grizzles

The Grizzlies were searching for a wing at the deadline. They were unable to acquire one even though they were in talks for O.G. Anunoby and Mikal Bridges. They reportedly offered a lot of draft capital for each player but were unable to get either one.

While Ross isn’t as good of a three-and-D player as Bridges or Anunoby, He certainly fills a need for a team competing for a title with a now Kevin Durant-led team. Bridges or Anunoby would not have been able to shut down Durant, nor Ross would. Still, he would help contain Durant from completely having his way on the court.

Terrence Ross buyout destinations: Suns

The Suns are in need of depth pieces after making their big splash for Kevin Durant. As currently constructed, the Suns could offer Ross a starting spot which is something some other teams can’t.

While Craig may be better at this role than Ross is at this point, signing Ross would add another functional rotation player to the Suns.

At the same time, it would make contenders lose out on a player who could help defend Durant. This signing would help the Suns while at the same time, negativity hurt a team that they would be facing in the playoffs.

Terrence Ross buyout destinations: Mavs

The final team on this list is the Mavs. Like the Suns, they are in desperate need of depth after trading for Irving. Ross could be promised a starting spot, which would actually a lot more sense as Hardaway’s scoring would work a lot better on the bench.

Hardaway could still start over Bullock but a better fit might Bullock do to his defending. Either way, a pickup like Ross could help this team for a deep playoff run. Woj has reported that the Mavs are the frontrunner for the role player.

Terrence Ross’s buyout value is high because he would help any team

Terrence Ross is a rare buyout player who would be good for any team. While three teams were outlined in this article, any team with championship aspirations should be looking to sign Ross. That includes the Bucks, Celtics, and Sixers in the East. In the West, pretty much every team that is one through thirteen in the standings would be a good fit for Ross.

Ross will likely get buckets/play strong defense/space the floor for any team. It is very likely that he will have noticeable stats for a team in the playoffs. He will be a talking point in the playoffs (as long as the team that gets him is in the playoffs; see the crowded west)
