UFC 284: Jack Della Maddalena defeated Randy Brown.
Jack Della Maddalena defeated Randy Brown via submission (rear-naked choke), Round 1 – 2:13 at UFC 284 on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, live from RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.
“I did, I fucking did. I knew it. That’s it I practiced grappling. Once he gave me the neck it was done. I clipped him, face plant, hammer fist, submission… I didn’t I thought it would take three rounds, 15 minutes. I was going to be throwing for my family in the crowd… I’m going to Bali in March. I’m going on holiday. When I’m back from holiday, I want someone in the top 15. I want to do this again this time next year. Same place, same time,” said Della Maddalena. The Perth native scored his fourth straight first-round finish.
Brown’s height difference was immediately evident as he sprinted across the Octagon to open the fight. Della Maddalena struggled to get inside with his striking. Both fighters traded kicks with Brown landing several front kicks. Della Maddalena was able to back up Brown against the cage and landed a massive right hook that dropped Brown. Immediately, Della Maddalena jumped on top of Brown and unleashed a vicious attack. Brown had to give up his back to avoid the knockout but allowed Della Maddalena to sink in a rear-naked choke.

Della Maddalena entered UFC 284 as one of the fastest-rising prospects in the welterweight division. After losing his first two professional fights, Della Maddalena won 13 straight. In his first three UFC fights, Della Maddalena scored three first-round knockouts.
Brown has been a member of the UFC roster for seven years, fighting 14 times. Brown entered UFC 284 on a hot streak, winning four straight and six of his previous seven fights.
