Bears: Latest No. 1 pick trade rumors ahead of Super Bowl
By Kristen Wong
Here’s the latest on the Chicago Bears No. 1 draft pick trade rumors heading into the Super Bowl.
The Chicago Bears hold the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and every fan or pundit has an opinion on what the franchise should do with it.
With Justin Fields coming off a career-best season in Year 2, the Bears could already have their quarterback of the future and may not need to take the top prospect at the position this upcoming draft. Instead, they could trade back to select cornerstone pieces around Fields and actually build a winning team this offseason.
On the other hand, if Chicago has even an inkling of doubt about Fields’ future with the franchise, they can use that top pick to shore up the quarterback position and perhaps draft someone they feel more comfortable about.
What will the Bears end up doing? Here are the latest rumors around the league.
Bears rumors: Justin Fields is nonplussed by rumors
Where is Justin Fields’ head’s at during all of this? The 2021 first-rounder will let the chips fall where they may and focus on “the things I can control.” A pretty veteran mindset, if you ask us.
In 2022, Fields threw for 2,242 yards and 17 touchdowns against 11 interceptions, breaking numerous franchise records despite finishing 3-12 in his second year in Chicago.
Any young quarterback would naturally be offended if their team was seeking his replacement, yet Fields doesn’t seem all too bothered.
Fields had this to say about all the rumors:
"“It doesn’t bother me at all…. [I’m just going to] try to focus on the things that I can control. If I do go somewhere else, my approach towards the game is going to stay the same. How I work, that’s going to stay the same.”"
Bears rumors: A few surprising teams could trade for the No. 1 pick
The Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans are the two teams most rumored to trade for the No. 1 pick for obvious reasons — they each have a top-5 pick and have a glaring need at the quarterback position.
Those franchises won’t be the only ones in the running for the highly coveted No. 1 pick, though. Per a recent report, the Tennessee Titans could also make a play for the pick even though they hold a pick outside the top-10, the 11th overall pick.
That would mean Tennessee would have to fork over a pretty sizeable package to Chicago for moving ten spots up the board, which feels unlikely but still possible. The Titans also need to find their franchise quarterback sooner rather than later, and this could be the year Mike Vrabel and the Titans’ front office decide to pull the trigger.
If the top pecking order of the 2023 NFL Draft gets shaken up in the coming months, it will almost certainly be Chicago who’s involved in a game-changing picks trade. Let’s see what happens.
