Ahead of Super Bowl LVII, the Eagles decided to rely on a secret weapon to help them prepare for the Chiefs’ defense.

The Philadelphia Eagles know what they have to do to beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. That also means getting some help from the outside.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the team signed former NFL defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to a two-week contract. Fangio is scheduled to become the defensive coordinator in Miami after this season.

Fangio was hired as a defensive consultant and has been giving intel to the Eagles’ offense on the Chiefs’ defense from his days in Denver while also providing tendencies from the other side. Naturally, this caused an uproar on Twitter, with some fans accusing the Eagles of “cheating” when no rules were broken.

The Eagles are pulling out all the stops against the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII

While Philadelphia may be favored in the game, and experts might side with them, don’t be fooled. Kansas City’s victory would be a big story.

The underdog role? Part of the “script” it’s all coming. Furthermore, underneath their erratically emotional Twitter fingers, the fans who are calling “foul” and stating that KC will be just fine are forgetting one detail.

Fangio is not coaching in the game. He’s only providing information on what to expect. His tenure as HC in Denver vs. KC was a disaster, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t learn anything about the Chiefs. If you lose so much, you learn enough about what the victorious team does and relay that information to whoever seeks it. The Eagles are following that rule.

Also, overlooking Fangio isn’t exactly a good idea. While his offenses were terrible, he did have good defenses in Denver, and by giving what he knows, it’s more of an asset than a liability. Fangio knows good defenses, and that’s a good thing to have on your side.

Laugh if you must, but the Eagles don’t just do something without thinking it through. They’ve shown themselves to be like that over the past few years, and more often than not, it works. Let’s see if Vic Fangio can provide the final ingredient for the big show.

Super Bowl LVII featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, kicks off at 6:30 ET on February 12 on FOX.
