2. Worst Red Sox moves Chaim Bloom has made: Trading for Jackie Bradley Jr.

Jackie Bradley Jr. didn’t stay away from the Boston Red Sox for too long. He played the 2021 season with the Milwaukee Brewers on a fresh new contract. He turned out to be an incredible bust for the Brewers. Bradley hit .163/.236/.261 in his 428 plate appearances.

Ready to move on from him, the Brewers sent him back to the Red Sox along with two prospects for Hunter Renfroe. Bradley didn’t make it through the year with Boston, batting .210/.257/.321 before he was released.

This trade does have a few layers to it. Alex Binelas, one of the prospects acquired, hit 25 home runs in the minors but did it with a .206 batting average. The other, David Hamilton, was a .251 hitter with 70 stolen bases in Double-A. One of them can help salvage this deal. Right now, it doesn’t look so great. Binelas was ranked as the 22nd best Red Sox prospect last season with Hamilton slotting in 29th place.

Renfroe, meanwhile, practically replicated his 2021 performance with the Red Sox during his one season in Milwaukee. He hit 29 home runs and drove in 72 while slashing .255/.315/.492. He is now with the Los Angeles Angels, his fourth team in as many years. Things probably wouldn’t have been much better if Renfroe stayed in Boston. Maybe, though, they could have gotten some better pieces back in return.
