Danny Green has joined the Cleveland Cavs via a buyout. What will his role on the team look like and what can he add to this locker room?

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Cavs have signed Danny Green off the buyout market. Green missed most of this season recovering from an ACL injury that he suffered in the last season’s playoffs. The Cavs have been up and down since their strong start to the season.

What will adding Danny Green do for this squad?

Adding Green will allow this team to have an additional bench shooter and wing defender. With the Cavs’ options, Green will not start in the playoffs but he could play key rotational minutes for Cleveland. The two-time champion is a career 39 percent shooter from 3 and was shooting 37 percent from 3 in his limited time with Memphis.

Danny Green is a veteran who will be able to add even more wisdom and playoff experience in a locker that doesn’t have a large collection of veterans. While this team doesn’t need to have that, it is good to have another veteran — considering the Celtics, Bucks, and Sixers all have guys who have been to the Finals or played in this league for a decade or more.

How much does this move the needle for the Cavs?

The Cavs didn’t make a move at the trade deadline, opting to keep the team together. While this team could have added an extra bench player at the deadline, they decided to wait till the buyout market and ended up with a player who could end up playing significant playoff minutes.

While they added a rotational player in Green with this move, it doesn’t really help their outlook very much as it is unknown what the veteran can contribute due to his age and ongoing recovery from the ACL injury.
