Devontez Walker could replace Josh Downs as Drake Maye’s favorite target
One of the most captivating passing offenses in the Power Five has to be the one humming over at UNC. Tar Heels star quarterback Drake Maye has the makings of a future top-10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Since repeat Heisman Trophy winners do not happen, the smart money has to be the North Carolina signal-caller over USC phenom Caleb Williams. This is big for Devontez Walker.
The Charlottean native played most recently for Sean Lewis at Kent State, you know, Deion Sanders’ new offensive coordinator at Colorado. The Golden Flashes had one of the more creative offenses in the Group of Five. With Maye losing No. 1 receiver Josh Downs to the NFL Draft, this is a fantastic opportunity for Walker to shine playing for his home state’s flagship university’s team.
UNC may not be favored to win the ACC, but the Tar Heels could definitely get back to Charlotte.
Dominic Lovett massively upgrades in-division by transferring to Georgia
Georgia needed to hit the transfer portal after seeing former Dawgs wide receivers enter it in Dominick Blaylock and AD Mitchell. While Mitchell found a new home in Texas, Blaylock is still searching for his. Although RaRa Thomas was in the news for all the wrong reasons last month, the Dawgs did land another star wide receiver from another SEC team of note in Dominic Lovett.
Lovett was First-Team All-SEC at Missouri. Although five-star Luther Burden got more shine over him in CoMo, Lovett can really play. While the Dawgs will have to replace Stetson Bennett IV at quarterback, one would think either Carson Beck, Brock Vandagriff or potentially even Gunner Stockton could have a top-tier target to throw to in their first season serving as the UGA starter.
Look for Lovett and the rest of the offense to come together even more under Mike Bobo now.
